Newquay Airport Enterprise Zone

18th August 2011

I am delighted to see the Government announce that Newquay Airport will become one of the Britain’s new Enterprise Zones. It is hoped that the scheme will create around 1000 new jobs for Cornwall as businesses are encouraged to invest in the 135 acre site, due to low business rates and relaxed planning regulations.

I recently wrote to the Government backing Cornwall’s bid for the new status and I am very pleased that it has succeeded.

Cornwall currently benefits from millions of pounds of European funding, a large part of which will end after 2014. That gives us three years to encourage investment from businesses and jobs for residents. Congratulations to all those involved in the bid, this is good news for Cornwall.
