Liberal Democrat MEP Andrew Duff is pushing hard for the creation of 25 extra MEPs to represent all of Europe.  The proposals would see 25 more politicians elected from pan-European parties to represent over 500million people.  Each of the 25 new MEPs would be equally responsible and all equally unaccountable to the people of Europe.

Do the Liberal Democrats really believe that creating more MEPs to spend more money will endear them to the European taxpayer? How on earth is such an MEP ever to be held accountable without a real constituency to elect them? Mr Duff also proposes that we spend even more money on a new pan-European electoral authority to monitor elections in every one of the 27 Nation States.

I can assure the voters of the South West that my conservative colleagues and I will vote against these absurd proposals.
