I am calling on the Commission to support a fair deal for British Pig Farmers who are facing unfair competition from Europe. British Pig Farmers are expected to conform to strict animal welfare standards that are not applicable in the most of the EU.

I am delighted to see the Government announce that Newquay Airport will become one of the Britain’s new Enterprise Zones. It is hoped that the scheme will create around 1000 new jobs for Cornwall as businesses are encouraged to invest in the 135 acre site, due to low business rates and relaxed planning regulations.

Fanatics in the European Parliament this morning gave a rapturous reception to plans that would see the EU flag on all sports team shirts. The plans were approved after a heated debate that saw Conservative MEPs, and the British media, vilified for speaking out against these ridiculous proposals.

Liberal Democrat MEP Andrew Duff is pushing hard for the creation of 25 extra MEPs to represent all of Europe. The proposals would see 25 more politicians elected from pan-European parties to represent over 500million people. Each of the 25 new MEPs would be equally responsible and all equally unaccountable to the people of Europe.
13th June 2011
I am becoming increasingly concerned with the behavior of Liberal Democrat MEPs, such as my South West MEP colleague, Sir Graham Watson, recently knighted in the Queen's birthday honours list.

The EU is proposing to give 15 million Euros to China this year, next year and the year after. The European Commission justifies this on the basis that China still faces significant development challenges, particularly in relation to environmental sustainability, equal access to justice and equal treatment under the law.

As I tour the South West and talk to people one issue is mentioned again and again, namely the EU Accounts and their failure to be signed off each year by the Court of Auditors. We may only have recently started a new financial year but it is the same annual story once again. For the 16th year in a row the EU's Court of Auditors has been unwilling to give the accounts a statement of assurance. Once again there were flaws in the accounts, and despite opposition from Conservative MEPs and our allies in the European Conservatives and Reformist (ECR) Group, they have been accepted by European politicians.

The announcement by the French Europe Minister that a challenge to the European Parliament's two-seat operation would result in counter-actions to change the seats of other EU institutions (report, 11th April) highlights how petulant and isolated the French have become on this issue.
