Gibraltar's Conservative MEPs have called on the European Commission to make an early and "crystal clear" public statement on the findings of a fact-finding mission sent to the Spanish border.

I have today called on the European Commission to despatch a team of officials immediately to the Gibraltar border crossing to begin a detailed assessment of Spain's interference. The Commission has already agreed to the principle of sending a team of investigators to the Rock, but has intimated that this might not take place until late September, or even October.

The three Conservative MEPs representing Gibraltar today accused Spain of "desperation and recklessness" over its increasingly outlandish threats against the British territory and its citizens.

Spain's provocative efforts to intimidate and cut off Gibraltar are unacceptable, Gibraltar's Conservative MEPs said today after Spanish authorities engineered six hour queues at the border crossing with Spain this weekend.

I am delighted to see the progress of the EU Referendum Bill and that this has now passed its first vote in the House of Commons. I do believe that this is a step in the right direction and my personal thanks go to James Wharton MP for bringing this issue forward so that the British public can have their say on our relationship with the European Union.

Like so many of my constituents, I am unhappy with Britain’s current relationship with the European Union. I firmly believe it has to change. I am delighted that the Prime Minister now wants to renegotiate our membership of the EU and put that deal to the British people in an in/out referendum.

I recently visited the Nationwide Building Society Headquarters in Swindon to discuss the future of banking in this country. Over the last decade the banks have reeled from one self-inflicted wound to another. First we had the financial crisis of 2008, where many banks over extended themselves and put their customers and shareholders at risk. Then came the PPI scandal with the mis-selling of products, and finally the Libor fixing scam, the impact of which is still being felt and investigated.
