Ashley Fox, MEP for the South West of England & Gibraltar, has warmly welcomed the decision by the Commission to finally give the go ahead for the new reactor at Hinkley Point. The proposed development had been the subject of a lengthy investigation by officials within the Competition Commission as to whether the funding package for the new reactor constitutes ‘state aid’ and is therefore illegal under EU law. This investigation has now concluded and the plans have been approved.

The European Commission is once again considering proposals that could threaten the smooth running of British Ports, including those such as Avonmouth and Portbury near Bristol. The Commission’s aim is to introduce competition into the largely State owned and State Subsidised ports on the continent.

An official report by the EU's Court of Auditors has added huge weight to the campaign headed by South West Conservative MEP Ashley Fox to stop the European Parliament endlessly shuttling between Strasbourg and Brussels.

Conservative MEPs reacted with anger today after the European Commission tried to undermine David Cameron's historic budget cut by demanding an extra £500 million from British taxpayers to meet Brussels spending bills this year.

Local South West MEP, Ashley Fox, visited the South West’s largest agricultural market, the Sedgemoor Auction Centre, on Saturday 10th May. Ashley was shown around by Robert Venner, who runs the Centre for auctioneers and chartered surveyors Greenslade Taylor Hunt, together with Rebecca Pow, the Prospective Conservative MP for the Taunton Deane constituency.

This was the message received by Conservative South West MEP, Ashley Fox, when he visited Dorset to meet with local orchard owner Rupert Best and cider maker Nick Poole, who produces the fabulous ‘Lancombe Rising’ cider from apples supplied from Rupert’s orchards.

I am delighted to hear that the Energy Minister, Michael Fallon, has announced that a post 2015 Conservative Government would end the current subsidies for onshore wind farms. In addition full control of wind farm planning applications will be handed to local Councils and Councillors.
