It is fantastic to hear that Honda, one of the South West’s largest manufacturers, is expanding to create 500 new jobs in 2012.
The people and businesses of Swindon are all too aware of the challenges that Honda has faced in the last couple of years - from the downturn during the recession, to the supply issues caused by both the tsunami in Japan and the flooding in Thailand.
This investment shows Honda’s continued commitment to engineering in the UK and an acknowledgement of the skill base that exists in Swindon.
Next year will see Honda’s 3000 highly skilled workers manufacture the new Civic, the mass selling Jazz and the brand new CRV; totalling 180,000 cars which is more than double 2011’s output.
I am delighted with this announcement from Honda. It is good to see this boost to the British economy.
