Bristol’s new Mayor Marvin Rees has met with local MEP and Conservative European Leader Ashley Fox to discuss the implications of BREXIT on the city.
Mr Rees and Mr Fox met in Brussels and agreed to work together to lessen the social and financial implications of last month’s referendum.
Matters discussed including the immediate impact on Bristol University and reports of ‘unacceptable’ attacks on East European families.
Mr Fox, also a former Bristol-city Councillor, said, “The Mayor and I agreed that cool heads are needed with negotiations for a new relationship between Britain and Europe about to begin. Bristol is tolerant and welcoming and we both agree that this must not change.
Mr Rees added, “My job is to insulate Bristol from the negative effects of BREXIT and to be pro-active in shaping our future during this period of uncertainty.”
