I am delighted that after months of delay the Airbus A400M has been approved for construction.
This follows a deal struck between the purchasing nations and Airbus on the overspend on the project. The new deal means job security for over 2000 engineers and 4500 support staff who work at the Filton site, as well as many thousands of additional jobs in the supply chain across the South West.
I had the pleasure of visiting Airbus for their Centenary on 19th February. Although it was wonderful to be shown the facility on such a landmark occasion there was a sense of uncertainty about the future. This announcement will be a huge boost to all the staff who work there.
I send my congratulations to all at Airbus and hope that this is the first step towards another 100 years as successful as the last.
