I was delighted to read of the £580m support contract to be signed between the Ministry of Defence and the Somerset based helicopter manufacture AgustaWestland.
The contract will ensure that the maintenance of the Royal Navy's Merlin Mk2 and Mk3 helicopters over the next five years will be carried out in Yeovil or the Royal Navy Air Station in Culdrose, Cornwall.
This latest development forms part of the Government’s commitment to invest £11.2bn into our helicopter fleet over the next ten years. The contract is expected to save the MoD over £140m over the period and secures over 1000 high quality jobs in the South West.
This is good news for the country and great news for the South West Region.
